In our modern lifestyle, there are people who look forward to their yearly vacations not only as a break from work and day to day life, but as an escape form our concrete jungles. There are people who desire, crave a more natural location, a retreat from technology and modern living. For these people, a mountain vacation can be the perfect choice. From hiking, to skiing, to sightseeing, to simply sitting back and taking in the beauty, a mountain vacation is just the thing for nature starved people.

Of course, two of the biggest attractions to mountain vacations are camping and hiking. And with such beautiful natural scenery, it's not hard to see why. And, in the summer, it's likely to not be so brain numbing hot as many vacation spots are likely to be. You can usually find out ahead of time how hard or easy the local hiking trails are before you go, and that can help you decide where you'd like to go.

When you're out in the wood's you're going to come into contact with dozens of different species of wildlife. Bears, big cats, raccoons, possums, all are animals you may come across depending where you go. You'll also get a chance to see lots of plant life that can be very different from the fauna that you usually see. All of this are great photo opportunities, so be sure to bring your camera.

If you'd rather take a mountain vacation in the winter, then you'll have plenty to do then as well. And skiing is only the beginning. You can enjoy local winter festivals, enjoy hockey or figure skating, enjoy an ice sculpture competition, or tube down a mountain. And everywhere you look, your sure to be surrounded by the natural wonderland that the mountain offers when frosted with pure, white, snow.

If you're interested in taking a mountain vacation, you'll have plenty of states to choose from. There's Pennsylvania, Maine, Utah, New York, and Vermont. Not to mention all the states that the Appalachians run though. If you're willing to leave the country, Canada is a nice choice as well.

No matter what time of the year you chose to go, a mountain vacation is like no other vacation you'll ever have. Enjoy the beauty of nature, the local color, the local food. Enjoy taking some time away from all of our modern headaches, and just being at peace with the beauty that surrounds us. There's so much to love about a mountain vacation, you'll want to go back every season. And if you do, it will seem like a whole different vacation every time.
